Valentines Week

Last week was Valentines Day. I gave the kids a pretty easy workload, as we had a busy week. The kids had a lot of fun. Here are some pictures to showcase our week:

Snow Painting

Michigan recently went through what people are calling a "Polar Vortex." Basically, it snowed for a week straight, and the temperatures sunk down below zero, with a windchill of about -30. The kids were so anxious to go outside and play in the freshly fallen snow, but it was simply too cold.

We did the next best thing. We brought the snow inside to us.

Quick Update

I never realized how hard it would be for me to find the time to blog. I plan to find a way to at least do a monthly recap. I want to use the blog not only as a way to inspire others, but as a scrapbook for the memories our family is creating during our education time together.

Ladybug is on the move now, and she likes to sit right in the middle of the kitchen table while we do our work. This of course, slows us down a bit. I think it's time for Dad to get out the booster seat for her, since she's mastered getting out of her high chair.

Hard to believe that in a few short months our family size will increase to 6 members. The pregnancy is going great. I am extremely lucky with how easy it's actually been. I do worry how I will efficiently educate 4 kids, who are all on different levels. With God, all things are possible. It is going to take a lot of planning and dedication on my part. Can't forget the biggest part: PRAYER.

I am finalizing our curriculum choices for next year and I am really excited for what the year will bring. I am hoping to be able to make it to some homeschool conventions this year, but most of them happen to fall right around the time when I am due.

School is in full swing around here, after a long break. We decided to take the entire month of December off. It was a much needed break. I love homeschooling year round, as it gives us the freedom to take time off as needed. We will take another break when baby arrives to adjust and bond with our new little man. Monkey Man was so excited when he learned that the baby was a boy. You could tell that Dad was relieved too.

I took some pictures with my phone and hope to upload them later and write another post, showcasing our week. I got a new fancy camera for Christmas and keep forgetting to use it. I need another pair of arms to help me out around here.

Life

It has been a very long and crazy 3 weeks. I've not been blogging because we've been living at my Mother in law's house, to help care for my husband's aunt who was suffering from liver cancer. Well, early this morning she went home to be with Jesus. Sunday afternoon I should have time to catch everyone up on what's been going on. We have been schooling but it's been spaced out a bit. It took us 2 weeks to finish letter D week. I am ok with that though. My kids learned so much this week that a workbook would never be able to teach them.

Week 2

We had a great week. The kids really enjoyed having a theme. I wasn't able to get as many pictures, because Ladybug was cutting a tooth and needed more attention than normal.

Ok, here are just some highlights from week 2.

Letter Focus: B
Number Focus: 2
Bible Focus: Noah's Ark & The Tower of Babel
Theme: The Ocean

Noah's Ark lacing

This was his first time lacing. You can see the proud look on his face.

Ladybug laughing at the kids doing their work.

Here are the ocean themed books that we read this week.

They glued blue squares onto their letters.

Sink or Float Game

Observing

Ducky got creative and went fishing for some of the items

Monkey joined in.

File folder game (Crayon color matching)

I put up some gel window clings to go along with our theme.

Our ocean themed sensory table

Introduction to water beads. I had them guess what was going to happen to the beads.

Observing the beads after 5 minutes

2 hours later

I was not able to get any pictures of the kids playing with the water beads. They were a huge hit and the kids have been begging me to play with them ever since. I am not going to lie, Mom and Day had fun playing with these right alongside the kids.

What's on the tray?

Each morning we do "tray tasks." I figured I'd showcase what was on the trays this week so you can get an idea of what it looks like.
